TOUGH SITUATIONS DON'T LAST, BUT TOUGH PEOPLE DO                                               MARCH 17th, 2007

Hey!!

A bit late on my doodle......actually REALLY late.....I do apologize! Losing is not fun, especially when you feel ready to play again. As much I want to whine and complain and find excuses, it's all pretty relative and comes down to having a good perspective on life. Ok fine, I did have a little pity party for myself that evening, and I did order a room service burger with fries instead of the salad but seriously what's wrong with feeling a little sorry for yourself!! Last year, the night after losing in the semi's at Wimbledon.
I was having dinner with some friends and the owner of the restaurant brought me a bottle of Champagne and a little note that said 'Tough situations don't last, but tough people do'. So that note has become my motto in life. Life rolls on....and life is good!

Little bit about the Vanity Fair party I went to a couple of weeks ago. First of all I was quite shocked to get an invite, and second of all I was petrified that no one would even know who I was when I would get out of the car. I was pleasantly surprised that not only did the people know who I was, but the fans standing outside of arrivals started yelling my name.

The event itself was very over-whelming.....a completely different crowd than what I'm used to. You've got Madonna on your right, Diddy on your left ( is that his name or is it Sean something?), Gwyneth Paltrow in front of you and Tom Ford behind....my third eye tells me he was totally checking me out, haha! When I go to these parties I'm a little shy when it comes to introducing myself. I'm not the conversation-starter type, unless I feel like the guy across the room has future potential with me.
Do I say 'Hi I'm Maria Sharapova, it's great to meet you' or do I keep my mouth shut and stare them down until they get sick of it and leave.
It's one of those very awkward things because you're not sure if the other people really care to meet you. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with talking.....once I start, it's hard to stop me!

Highlights of the night:

~Talking to Gwen Stefani a little bit.....she is getting ready for her tour and was memorizing her songs.

~Taking a picture with Tom Ford, who happened to tell me I was pretty ( he knows what a woman likes to hear!!!) I'm like "You know who I am!!!" He's like "Honey of course I know who you are"

~Meeting famous photographer Mario Testino. Kind of a strange introduction......he came over with a little camera and started taking pictures of me and says 'I was told I need to photograph you one day". I was like ok who's this guy? So he keeps taking pictures and says 'by the way I'm Mario Testino, nice to meet you" and leaves. I turn around to my friend and say OMG that was Mr.Testino!!!

~Hunting down Orlando Bloom for a photo.....which took ages cause he was all over the room, talking to everyone.....great example of someone that has amazing social skills....maybe I'll hire him to teach me some.

My new fashion designer craze....Rick Owens. He makes his pants so long that you have to cut them yourself depending on what length you want. And I'm kind of obsessed with his leather jacket right now, which reminds me I have to take it to the dry cleaners.

I also bought a pair of funky sunglasses by Christian Roth....whose also sooo talented. I'm always on the hunt for cool sunglasses that no one can just get anywhere. I'm not into the whole 'these are my sunglasses and look, this is where I got them' kind of deal. His inspirations come from different architectures around the world, and the pair I bought was modeled after a modern chair......yes I did say chair.

Ok and another really weird Maria must-have.....are the new Converses that say 'love' on one shoe and 'hate' on the other. I am so not the sneaker type of chick but they seem to bring out my rock-n-roll attitude, which really can be hazardous so please use with caution.

That's it for now....

Maria
