Nike Ad Shoot                                                                                                                               August 22th, 2006

Ok, here's the inside info on my Nike "Just Do It" spot. We shot it  right after Wimbledon.  What we thought was going to be two long days turned into two and a half. First day took place at the Waldorf Astoria, a hotel that is supposedly very well known, but I must say is a bit too stiff for me. Way too many suits around. Basically not my kind of place.

The concept of the commercial comes from the musical "West Side Story." I'll be honest with you.....I had never heard of it before. So I tried to watch it because the song that's in the movie was to be the main song of the commercial. I do love musicals, but I honestly couldn't get past the first thirty minutes of the movie. My verdict - way too long! But I did listen to the song and it's great. So throughout the commercial I am getting ready for my match, meanwhile people are singing to me (the "you're so pretty" song). It is not until I hit a huge backhand return, that they stop and are shocked that I can do that. I guess it's the story of my life. Don't you dare underestimate me!! Haha. The second day of the shoot was at the Arthur Ashe stadium. Kinda felt like I was playing two Grand Slams back-to-back, cause I just got back from Wimbe and here I am at Arthur Ashe. Unfortunately (actually I was very pissed) we got rained out in the second half of day #2, meaning "Yes Maria!! there's no chance you are flying out tonight."

Anyways I do have a great team around me throughout the days that keep it fun. And my mom brought Dolce towards the end of the shoot. He's my stress-reliever. Not that I was stressed, just needed a little bit of fun. In the down time, I can't tell you enough what weird things you start doing after ten hours of shooting! Let's start with the prank calls. Not only do we call people but we actually keep them on the phone for five minutes. Then we usually check the couches out. This time it was to the song "Promiscuous Girl."

Can anyone please tell me how people in production business stay fit? I probably have a bigger intake of sugar on shoots than any other time of the year. No matter how good you want to be, how can you say "no" to those brown wrapped Snicker bars and little chubby Orangina bottles? I don't think it helps that we ask for the catering people to bring us cupcakes. Mmmmm!!! Last year during the Us Open, my friend and I were on a cupcake hunt. We tried cupcakes at four different places (no, not in the same day) and decided that Crumbs had the best. The cupcake delivery during the shoot came from Magnolia Bakery, our second favorite.

One of the other highlights of the commercial was watching John and Patrick McEnroe sing. John could not stop from laughing after each take. It was absolutely impossible to be silent and not laugh. I mean how many times do you get to see John sing "I'm so pretty?" I wish you guys could see it.....Hilarious!! Alrighty hope you enjoyed my little "Behind the Scenes" and off course--fingers crossed--you guys liked the commercial.
